If you are craving something crunchy and spicy with your evening tea, making homemade snacks can significantly enhance the experience of the drink. People often buy packaged snacks containing preservatives that are not healthy. Instead, it is suggested to prepare homemade spiced green peas with the aroma of asafoetida and cumin, which will be healthy, spicy, and delicious, and which people will want to repeat.
Adding fenugreek (hing) and cumin creates a digestive aroma and excellent flavor for this snack, causing everyone who tastes it to ask for the recipe.
For preparation, you will need:
- Green peas (fresh or frozen) - 2 cups
- Asafoetida (hing) - 1/4 teaspoon (for digestion and flavor enhancement)
- Cumin (jeera) - 1 teaspoon
- Green chili - 2 (finely chopped)
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon (grated)
- Chaat masala - 1 teaspoon
- Amchur powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Roasted cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red pepper powder / Kashmiri chili - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black salt and white salt - to taste
- Lemon juice - 1 teaspoon
- Oil or ghee - 2 tablespoons
- Cilantro - finely chopped
If using fresh green peas, they should be boiled in hot water for 2-3 minutes and then drained. Frozen peas can simply be rinsed with water and used.
Heat the oil or ghee in a pan. As soon as the oil heats up, add the asafoetida and cumin so they sizzle. Then stir in the grated ginger and finely chopped green chili and fry for 30 seconds.
After this, add the drained green peas to the pan. Cook on medium heat for 3-4 minutes until the moisture in the peas evaporates and they become slightly crunchy. Then reduce the heat and add turmeric (optional), red pepper powder, chaat masala, amchur powder, roasted cumin powder, black and white salt. Cook for another 2 minutes, stirring thoroughly so that the spices evenly coat the peas.
Turn off the heat, add the lemon juice and chopped cilantro, and mix everything. The finished crunchy and spicy green peas with asafoetida and cumin are served with strong evening tea.
