Silver and gold prices fell: Silver dropped by 6500 rupees in five days

Last week saw a decline in prices for both gold and silver. Prices for silver, in particular, fell sharply on both the futures and domestic markets. Following a recent drop, the price of 1 kg of silver on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) became significantly lower than its historical high.

A substantial drop in precious metal prices occurred in the domestic market. According to data from the Indian Bullion Jewelers Association (IBJA.Com), over the last five working days, the cost of 10 grams of 24-carat gold decreased from ₹1,54,884 at the close of September 4th to ₹1,51,938, representing a decrease of ₹2,946. The price of silver fell by ₹6,536 per kilogram during this period, dropping from ₹2,35,456 to ₹2,28,920.

Furthermore, prices for other purities of gold were also adjusted. According to IBJA, current rates include: 22-carat gold at ₹1,48,290 per 10 grams, 20-carat gold at ₹1,35,230 per 10 grams, 18-carat gold at ₹1,23,070 per 10 grams, and 14-carat gold at ₹98,000 per 10 grams.

The price reduction affected not only the domestic market but also the futures market. Specifically, the price of silver on MCX showed a sharp decline. If the price of silver with December expiry was ₹2,37,658 per kilogram on September 4th, it fell to ₹2,34,886 by the last trading day of last week, Friday, which is a decrease of ₹2,772 over 5 working days.

Following a significant slump on MCX, the futures price of silver continued to fall relative to its historical high. In January of this year, the price reached ₹4,20,048 per kilogram. Comparing the current price of ₹2,34,886 shows that silver is currently cheaper than its peak value by ₹1,85,162 per kilogram. In September alone, the silver futures market experienced a drop of ₹5,235 per kilogram.

Price reductions were also observed for gold on the Multi Commodity Exchange. Although the rate of gold's decline over five working days was slower than that of silver, the price of this precious metal decreased from ₹1,52,767 to ₹1,52,655. As for September, compared to the closing price of August 31st at ₹1,54,460, gold became cheaper by ₹1,805 per 10 grams.
