Kitchens in rented apartments are often small and lack sufficient cabinets or shelves for storage. As a result, spices, dishes, and other kitchen utensils are scattered across the countertop, creating significant difficulties while cooking.
Since the accommodation is rented, you cannot drill into the walls to install desired shelves or racks. However, by using several smart, inexpensive, and non-damaging constructions to organize the kitchen, you can significantly increase the usable space in a small kitchen and keep it clean and tidy.
To free up space on the countertop, it is recommended to use miniature corner shelves or spice racks that are two or three tiers high. This allows you to place three or four containers in a space that usually accommodates only one.
To hang spatulas, sieves, ladles, pans, and aprons without drilling into the walls, you should use special hooks with adhesive or magnetic bases capable of supporting considerable weight. They are easy to stick onto tiles and can be removed without leaving marks when you move out of the apartment.
If the kitchen has cabinet doors, you can install hanging rails on the inside of these doors. These are convenient for storing plastic wrap, napkins, dish soap, or cutting boards.
To utilize the empty space between two shelves inside a cabinet, you can use suspended metal baskets. These baskets attach to the shelf without using screws and can be used to store cups, plates, or small jars.
For hanging knives and small spice jars, you can use a magnetic holder strip that attaches to the side of the refrigerator. Additionally, it is useful to purchase a narrow rolling cart that can be easily slid into a narrow gap between the refrigerator and the wall.
