Hot Puran Poli with ghee is very tasty, and it can also be served with curry or vegetable stew. Below is a simple way to prepare soft and delicious Puran Poli.
Ingredients for Puran Poli
For the Puran filling:
1 cup of washed chana lentils
3 cups of water
1 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of cardamom powder
A little grated nutmeg
For the dough:
2 cups of wheat flour or semolina
1 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of ghee
Water as needed
First, thoroughly wash the chana lentils. Place them in a multi-cooker, add 3 cups of water, and cook until about 3-4 whistles. After cooking, drain the excess water and lightly mash the lentils.
Now return the mashed lentils to the multi-cooker or pot and add the sugar. Set it to low heat and constantly stir, cooking the lentil and sugar mixture. When the mixture starts to thicken, add the cardamom powder and grated nutmeg, mix well. Cook until the mixture is completely dry and thick. Then, let the Puran filling cool.
Next, prepare the dough. Take the flour or semolina in a bowl. Add salt and ghee, and mix well. Now, gradually add water to knead a soft dough. Cover the dough with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and leave it for 30 minutes.
After preparing the dough, make small balls from it. Roll out one ball, place the prepared Puran filling in the center. Seal the edges and gently roll it out into a round shape again.
Heat a skillet and place the Puran Poli on it. Brush lightly with ghee on both sides and fry over medium heat until fully cooked. When the Puran Poli turns slightly golden brown on both sides, remove it from the skillet.
Serve the hot Puran Poli drizzled with a little ghee. It can be eaten with curry, vegetable stew, or milk according to your taste.
