A three-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan is set to begin on Sunday, September 13. Ahead of this series, Afghanistan's captain, Ibrahim Jadaran, made an important statement regarding 15-year-old Vaibhav Survanshi. Jadaran emphasized that his team is vigilant about this young batsman and has already developed a corresponding strategy.
Recently, Vaibhav Survanshi demonstrated outstanding play in the T20 International Series against Zimbabwe and was named 'Player of the Series.' However, there is no guarantee of his participation in the first match, as Sanju Samson is also part of the Indian squad; the final decision rests with the team management.
Ibrahim Jadaran noted that several Afghan players have previously played against Vaibhav Survanshi in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which gives the team preliminary experience in understanding this young player's game. He highly praised Vaibhav's talent, noting that he consistently performs well not only in the IPL but also at various levels. Jadaran stated that the team has studied Vaibhav's video footage and will focus on the correct application of their tactics during the match.
Vaibhav Survanshi's start in international cricket was not easy. After failing to show expected results in the first three innings, he was dropped from the starting lineup. However, in matches against Zimbabwe, he was given the opportunity to play in three games, and he took full advantage of this chance. During this series, he scored runs by playing innings of 50, 20, and 81 runs. Notably, in all three encounters, he started the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma.
Vaibhav Survanshi's inclusion in the Indian squad was largely due to his performances in IPL 2026. Playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR), the young batsman scored 776 runs throughout the season. Following this, he was given the opportunity to join the Indian national team, debuting in international cricket at the age of just 15. His success against Zimbabwe strengthened his confidence.
The series is also significant for Ibrahim Jadaran. He recently took over the leadership of the Afghanistan T20I team from Rashid Khan. He acknowledged that captaincy is a great responsibility but does not feel excessive anxiety. Jadaran stated that he tries to enjoy the responsibility as both a player and a captain, as well as making sound decisions under pressure. He also believes that good understanding and communication with Rashid are beneficial for the team.
The three-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan has many features. Afghanistan is hosting the series against India for the first time. All three matches will take place at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, and the Indian team will use the away dressing room.
