Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim performed the song "Khwaab Ho Tum Ya Koi Haqeeqat" by Kishore Kumar during a gala dinner organized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Saturday.
Ibrahim shared a recording of this performance on his X account, which shows him singing the classic composition by Kishore Kumar accompanied by a pianist during the dinner.
This is not the first time Ibrahim has publicly shown his admiration for Kishore Kumar. The Malaysian Prime Minister has previously spoken about his fondness for the legendary singer and had already performed this same song during an interview in India in 2024.
The song, taken from the Indian film "Teen Devian" from 1965, was sung by Kishore Kumar, with music composed by S. D. Burman and lyrics written by Majrooh Sultanpuri. It remains one of Kishore Kumar's enduring romantic hits, known for its memorable melody and expressive lyrics.
Earlier on Saturday, Ibrahim held a bilateral meeting with Modi during the 18th BRICS Summit. During their conversation, the Malaysian Prime Minister also commented on Modi's popularity. Ibrahim stated: "You see, Prime Minister Modi is very popular; I have received so many messages wishing him well.".
Malaysia participated in the BRICS Leaders' Summit as a BRICS partner country by invitation from Modi. The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that this summit is a "high-level BRICS platform," bringing together leaders to discuss global governance, sustainable development, economic cooperation, trade and investment, digital transformation, and the issues of developing countries.
Ibrahim was scheduled to deliver a national statement on the topic of "Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth," with Malaysia expected to advocate for strengthening cooperation between BRICS members and partner countries.
The gala dinner also featured the cultural performance "Navarasa – World of Common Emotions" and the BRICS symphony "One Rhythm, Many Cultures," which gathered musicians from member and partner countries.
The dinner menu included regional Indian dishes such as Khandvi Mille-Feuille, Khumb Galouti, Paneer Lababdar, Gucchi Marmik, millet pulao, beetroot raita, Old Delhi Fruit Cream with Jalebi, and Shahtoot Phirni.
The dinner took place after the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration 2026, under which BRICS leaders called for reforms in global governance and stronger representation for developing countries.
