The Embassy of Israel in Uzbekistan and Samarkand State University signed an agreement that provides for the granting of a grant to the university's Department of History. The goal of this research is to study the history and cultural heritage of the Jewish community of Samarkand, as reported by the Embassy of the State of Israel in Uzbekistan.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Israeli ambassador, embassy representatives, as well as the management and faculty of Samarkand State University.
The received grant will allow the university's historians and researchers to conduct a comprehensive study of the historical development and cultural heritage of the Jewish community. The research will cover the community's contribution to the social, economic, and cultural life of Samarkand, as well as its ties with Israel.
The Embassy emphasized that this initiative is aimed at supporting historical research, preserving cultural heritage, and strengthening academic cooperation between Israel and Uzbekistan.
It is expected that the results of the study will help create more complete documentation of the history of the Jewish community of Samarkand and make its heritage more accessible to scholars, students, and the general public.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Israeli Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Gideon Lustig, highlighted the importance of preserving the history and cultural heritage of Jewish communities in Uzbekistan and expressed gratitude to Uzbek scholars for their work.
Rustam Khamrulov, Rector of Samarkand State University, welcomed this initiative, emphasizing the importance of further developing academic interaction and conducting research based on archival materials and historical sources.
The Embassy added that the signing of this agreement is another step in the development of educational and cultural ties between Israel and Uzbekistan.
