Iran's flagship airline, Iran Air, is considering the possibility of resuming flights to Malaysia after a prolonged break. This became known following a meeting between the airline's CEO and the Malaysian ambassador in Iran.
Iran Air is studying the resumption of flights to Malaysia
As reported by the Mehr news agency on Saturday, Tahir Abdolahi, CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran Aviation (officially known as Iran Air), held talks with Dato Wan Yusri, the Malaysian ambassador. The discussion focused on the possibility of expanding the airline's route network and finding ways for its return to East Asia.
The main focus of the meeting was on the requirements and possibilities for restoring Iran Air flights to Malaysia, as well as the prospects of resuming service to the country after a long hiatus. The parties also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing air links between Iran and Malaysia, particularly in the context of promoting economic, trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
Abdolahi noted that restoring the Tehran-Kuala Lumpur route could be the first step toward facilitating travel for passengers and tourists while simultaneously fostering economic and cultural ties between the two nations. He emphasized Iran Air's role as Iran's national carrier and described the development of air connectivity as an effective method for strengthening relations between Iran and Malaysia.
For his part, Wan Yusri welcomed the prospect of Iran Air resuming flights to Malaysia, acknowledging the airline's history and status as Iran's flagship. He also expressed readiness to provide support and assistance in the coordination necessary for Iran Air's services to resume in Malaysia.
Furthermore, the meeting covered coordination issues and other conditions for resuming flights, available capacities, opportunities for cooperation between relevant sectors, and challenges facing this process.
