Ladakh's popularity among tourists is growing rapidly. Between January and August 2026, the region welcomed over 405,085 visitors, surpassing the figure of 335,872 tourists who visited throughout 2025. Thus, Ladakh has already exceeded last year's record, even though four months remain in the year.
Compared to the 269 thousand tourists who visited Ladakh in January-August 2025, the number of guests this year has increased by approximately 50%. Furthermore, 74,753 tourists were recorded in August 2026, which is 65.38% more than 45,201 in August 2025. The growth in the number of foreign visitors by 32.95% is also noted.
Ladakh's appeal is due to a combination of high mountains, blue lakes, snowy passes, Buddhist monasteries, desert valleys, and unique culture, offering many experiences in one trip.
Representatives of the Ladakh government shared tourism data on the social media platform X, expressing satisfaction that the tourism industry is reaching new heights. It was noted that 405 thousand tourists arrived in Ladakh between January and August 2026, which is 20.61% more than 335 thousand throughout 2025. It was also emphasized that compared to 269 thousand tourists in January-August 2025, there is an increase in visitors of 50.37% this year.
The Ladakh Tourism Department includes Pangong Lake among its main attractions. This place is distinguished by the incredible view of blue water against the backdrop of high mountains, and the water color changes depending on the time of day.
Other significant places include Nubra Valley, where one can see cold desert landscapes and Hunder sand dunes among the mountains, as well as Bactrian camels. Diskit Monastery is located in Nubra Valley, one of the picturesque Buddhist monasteries, offering a magnificent view of the valley and mountains. Tukru village offers a different experience, known for its Balti culture, old houses, and apricot gardens.
Among the natural beauties are Tso Moriri Lake, which, along with Pangong, is one of Ladakh's beautiful high-altitude lakes, attracting nature lovers with its tranquility and blue water. Thiksey Monastery, located near Leh, is known for its architecture and scenic views. Cultural and Buddhist heritage can be explored in Hemis, where besides Hemis Monastery, one should visit the natural area. The Khardung La pass is suitable for adventure lovers, known for its high-altitude landscapes. And for those seeking solitude, Hanle is suitable, known for its clear sky and stargazing opportunities. Lamayuru is called the 'moonscape' of Ladakh due to its unique rock formations and dry mountainous terrain.
The reasons for such high interest in Ladakh are manifold: besides motorcycle enthusiasts, people come here for lakes, monasteries, villages, local culture, and unique mountain landscapes. Increased accessibility, development of tourist activities, and the region's popularity on social media contribute to the growing interest of people.
