The Russian delegation will take part in the energy ministers' meeting within the framework of the US presidency of the G20, which will be held in Houston from September 14 to 16. This was reported by Ambassador Marat Berdyev, who is responsible for monitoring G20 issues, via Telegram.
According to AFP, Berdyev did not disclose the identities of the Russian participants, clarifying only that representatives from the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Natural Resources will be among them.
The diplomat emphasized that Russian ideas regarding the variability of energy balances, technological neutrality, the role of fossil fuels in general, natural gas, and nuclear energy for peaceful purposes are becoming increasingly relevant.
This announcement followed a negative reaction caused by the presence of Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov at the G20 Financial Summit in Asheville, southern USA, in early September. This was shared by his Canadian counterpart, François-Philippe Champagne.
Siluanov, whom Western countries and Ukraine's allies usually consider an 'undesirable person,' accepted Washington's invitation and attended the large oval table gathering dozens of delegates. He also had the opportunity to hold a private meeting with his American counterpart, Scott Bessent.
Following this, European Commissioner for the Economy Valdis Dombrovskis stated: 'Now is not the time to normalize Russia or its presence at such meetings.'
This year, the United States is organizing a series of G20 meetings, which include major world economies such as China, India, Japan, and France. The last major meeting will gather heads of state in December on a golf course belonging to Donald Trump in Miami, Florida.
