Tension in the Indian squad increased after Ishan Kishan left the training session due to a back muscle spasm. A series of three T20I matches between India and Afghanistan starts on September 13.
The three matches of the series are scheduled for September 13, 15, and 17 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Concerns within the team intensified before the tournament began when Ishan Kishan exited training after feeling a back strain during net practice.
Fast bowler Navdeep Saini provided an update on Ishan Kishan's health. Earlier, Ishan trained with captain Shreyas Iyer for about an hour against spinners, where he looked in excellent form and hit the ball over the boundary several times. After this, he moved on to practice against fast bowlers in the nets.
Navdeep Saini was acting as a net bowler to assist the Indian squad. Saini bowled a short ball to Ishan Kishan. Instead of ducking to avoid the ball, Ishan turned his body backward. At that moment, he felt a back strain and looked uncomfortable. Seeing Ishan's condition, physiotherapists and support staff immediately rushed to him for examination. After that, he stopped his practice and left the nets.
Concerns over Ishan Kishan's injury were growing, but Navdeep Saini, who plays for the Indian squad, later clarified the situation. In an interview with The Indian Express, Saini stated that he himself asked Ishan about his well-being. According to Saini, he and Ishan have known each other for a long time, so he tried bowling a short ball at Ishan. After the delivery, Saini asked Ishan how he felt, to which the wicketkeeper-batsman replied that he was fine.
Recently, Ishan Kishan returned after a brilliant performance in the Duleep Trophy 2026-27 final, where he scored 270 runs in the first innings and 80 runs in the second against the Southern Region. His form is crucial for the team management ahead of the T20I series against Afghanistan.
