The film 'Toxic' (Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups), which was anticipated to be one of the biggest movies of 2026 due to its star cast, scale, and Yash's return after four years, faced issues after its premiere, disrupting the creators' box office projections.
The film began with an impressive global opening of around 140 crore, and in India, the first day brought in about 101 crore. Initially, it seemed the movie would run for a long time, but already on the second day, revenue dropped to 37 crore, and by the first Monday, daily earnings fell below 10 crore.
By the sixteenth day, the film's worldwide collection reached approximately 339.32 crore, while the sixteenth day in India only generated about 40 lakh. Thus, the film, which started with huge earnings, quickly lost momentum.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala stated in an interview with India Today that the losses for 'Toxic' could range from 300 to 350 crore. According to him, the film failed to recoup even about 60 percent of its budget. The production budget for the film was estimated at approximately 450 crore, and considering advertising, release, percentages, and other expenses, the total investment could reach 500 crore or even exceed this amount.
However, it is noted that the net loss of the film cannot simply be calculated by subtracting the worldwide gross from the budget, as revenues are distributed among theaters, distributors, and producers. Furthermore, receipts from OTT, satellite broadcasting, and music rights are included in the calculation, so the loss figures vary.
The main problem for 'Toxic' was not the start itself, but the subsequent decline. The presence of Yash, Nayanthara, and Kiara Advani, along with the film's large scale, attracted viewers in the initial days. But then this audience did not sustain. During the screening, the film competed with movies such as 'Mirzapur: The Movie' and 'Hanuman Ansh'. As other films gained traction, the number of screenings and screens for 'Toxic' decreased.
Recently, a friend of Yash shared how disappointed the actor was with the failure of 'Toxic', noting that this pain is evident in his voice.
Now, 'Toxic' is being compared to Ram Charan's 'Game Changer' and Prabhas' 'Adipurush'. Reports suggest that the budget for 'Game Changer' was around 300-400 crore, and the worldwide theatrical collection reached approximately 186 crore, with losses estimated at 200 crore. Regarding 'Adipurush', the budget varies in reports from 500 to 700 crore, and the worldwide theatrical gross was about 350 crore, with an estimated loss of about 220 crore.
If the reported losses for 'Toxic' of 300 crore or more prove true, the film could fall into the category of financial disasters surpassing both mentioned films.
Following the weakening of the film's revenues, this also affected the non-theatrical business. Reports indicate that the creators had not finalized the OTT deal before the release. There was hope that the value of digital rights would increase with the film's success. However, the opposite occurred. According to Ramesh Bala, if the OTT rights had been sold in advance, the margin of losses could have been reduced by at least 100 crore. Reports claim that the expected OTT deal, which was projected at 200 crore, is now valued at only around 30 crore, although this figure is unconfirmed.

The return after four years, pan-Indian appeal, and significant investments of around 450-500 crore intensified the pressure. Now, the worldwide collection, which hovers around 340 crore, is the main story of this film.
Thus, 'Toxic' did not just show a weak box office result; the entire business plan of the film turned out to be flawed. From the opening to the theater run and OTT rights—all the mathematics that should have turned the film into a financial giant resulted in the largest loss.
