According to Djibouti's Minister of Economy and Finance, Ilyas Davaleh, nearly 500 refugees from Yemen, including women and children, have arrived in the coastal city of Obock.
Davaleh stated on the social network X that these refugees were rescued at sea from boats that ran out of fuel.
The UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported on Friday that since the escalation of hostilities in Yemen, more than 46,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.
Furthermore, the executive body of the Yemeni government for managing displaced persons camps announced that 1,367 families were relocated only on September 8th in the provinces of Taiz, Al Hudaydah, and Lajdh.
The initial humanitarian consequences of the war in Yemen have already reached the shores of Djibouti. Specifically, 500 refugees, including women and children, were brought to the coastal city of Obock after being rescued at sea from boats that lacked fuel.
