The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff identified the launch of an unspecified projectile directed towards Pyongyang, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
The agency published this statement at 05:46 Seoul time on Saturday, corresponding to the evening in Portugal. As of yet, Japanese authorities have not issued any statement regarding the incident.
This launch follows an event that occurred in mid-August last year, when North Korea conducted a similar firing, using a series of short-range ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan.
This act took place after joint military exercises conducted between Seoul and Washington. These exercises were carried out even after the United States President, Donald Trump, had ordered the reduction of these activities as a gesture aimed at the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un.
