The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, stated in the legislative assembly that the state's new education policy will focus on ensuring quality education for the 'Gen Alpha' and 'Gen Beta' generations. He emphasized that the priority is to implement the best global educational systems in Telangana so that the state's students can successfully compete on a global level.
During a brief discussion on education issues in the legislative assembly, members of parliament also presented their suggestions for the proposed new policy. The Minister announced that the government would consider all received comments and take steps in the interest of the students. An education council has already been formed to develop the new education policy, which will review the report of the commission led by K. Kesava Rao.
Furthermore, Revanth Reddy noted that the state government's main goal is to increase education allocations in the annual budget to 15 percent. He informed that the previous BRS government allocated ₹19,093 crore for education in 2023-24. While the Congress government plans to increase this amount to ₹21,292 crore in 2024-25, ₹23,108 crore in 2025-26, and ₹26,647 crore in 2026-27. According to data published by the Minister, the education budget has increased by ₹7,554 crore over the last three years.
The Minister pointed out that many parents are starting to send their children to private schools from the age of two. Because admission to government schools is at the age of five, parents often chose private institutions where English language education is available starting from kindergarten level. However, the government has launched a preschool education program in government schools, which was utilized by 64,000 children in the first year. Additionally, a mid-day meal system is provided for students and teachers from kindergarten to class 12. Centralized kitchens have been established to ensure a quality and clean breakfast and lunch, and expenses for diet and cosmetic maintenance have been increased.
Revanth Reddy stated that education is the most important means of changing people's lives. Analyzing the results of a government survey, he noted that the root of social backwardness lies not in a lack of property or status, but in the lack of access to education. The Minister added that since assuming office as Education Minister, the number of students enrolled in government schools has increased by 86,000, which he called proof of his work as Education Minister.
Regarding teacher recruitment, the Minister stressed that education is a calling for him, and he firmly believes that the future of the country is shaped in the classroom. He reported that in his first year in power, 10,006 teachers were recruited for 55 posts, and this recruitment process was conducted transparently. Revanth Reddy accused the previous BRS government of neglecting the field of education during its ten years in power, noting that only 7,857 teachers were recruited during that period. He also mentioned the dispute related to GO 97 concerning polytechnic colleges. The Minister recalled the efforts of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to strengthen the educational and irrigation sectors, noting that many educational institutions in the country developed based on the foundation laid by Nehru.
