The story of actor Dharmendra, who starred in low and mid-level films (B and C grade) during a certain period of his career, has become a topic of discussion. Ranbir Pushpa, the author of stories for 50 blockbusters, worked with stars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, and Kamal Haasan. He shared an episode from an interview with Siddharth Kanani concerning Dharmendra.
Pushpa recounted how Sunny Deol clashed with director Kanti Shah after a scene originally conceived as paternal was changed to a romantic one. Upon learning this, Sunny Deol approached and hit Kanti Shah. Sunny told his father Dharmendra that he should not act in such films.
Ranbir Pushpa noted that he does not know the exact reason why Dharmendra had to act in B and C grade films, emphasizing that he was always a gentleman and valued his reputation. This incident was previously reported in newspapers.
When asked about the reasons for Dharmendra's participation in lower-quality films, Ranbir speculated that perhaps the original script differed from what was filmed. It is possible that during shooting it became apparent that the film did not meet the standard he expected. He believes the director might have exaggerated or created a certain atmosphere, but the actual result turned out differently. Ranbir added that during that period he communicated little with Dharmendra, but Dharmendra mentioned that sometimes people commit such acts due to naivety. It was also mentioned that an elder person might have asked him to shoot only a couple of scenes, and he agreed.
Kanti Shah is known as a recognized director, producer, and screenwriter. He worked on low-level films with Mithun Chakraborty and Dharmendra. Among the films directed by Kanti are 'Mar Daad', 'Basanti Tangewali', 'Munni Bai', 'Zurat', and 'Darwaza'.
