Oracle to increase restructuring expenses by R$ 3.7 billion, including layoffs

Oracle plans to invest an additional US$ 700 million, equivalent to approximately R$ 3.7 billion, in its restructuring program. This plan covers personnel cuts, contract terminations, and other expenses related to cost reduction.

With this new financial injection, the total projected cost for the program during the 2026 fiscal year will reach about US$ 2.8 billion, corresponding to approximately R$ 14.8 billion.

The company disclosed this information in a regulatory filing last Friday (the 11th). According to Oracle itself, part of these expenses is associated with the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) in certain functions within the company.

In the previous fiscal year, Oracle had already allocated about US$ 2.1 billion (approximately R$ 11.1 billion) for restructuring purposes.

This move comes as Oracle seeks to optimize costs in certain areas while simultaneously dedicating billions of dollars to expand its cloud computing infrastructure and meet the growing demand for AI services.

The need to increase investments in AI infrastructure intensified after Oracle recorded over US$ 30 billion (about R$ 159 billion) in new cloud computing contracts related to the technology in the first fiscal quarter.

As a result, the company's contract portfolio reached the mark of US$ 664 billion (about R$ 3.5 trillion). Oracle communicated that about half of this amount is expected to be converted into sales over the next 36 months.

Despite the volume of new contracts, the company emphasizes that most of them will not require large additional capital injections. This is because some agreements involve upfront payments from customers or the provision of the necessary equipment for the operation.

This strategy is fundamental for a corporation that has significantly increased spending on data centers and other essential resources to keep its AI services running.
