Owners can now transfer FASTag between different banks thanks to the 'One Tag' system

Vehicle owners can now transfer their FASTag from one bank to another, similar to transferring a mobile phone number. This has become possible due to the implementation of the 'One Tag' system by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which launched this feature on Friday.

About a dozen major banks have joined the portability system, including SBI, ICICI, and Airtel Payments Bank. This change will allow users dissatisfied with their current FASTag issuer to switch to another participating bank without needing to purchase a new chip or replace the existing one.

Furthermore, the government plans to introduce an annual local pass for residents living within a 20-kilometer radius of a toll zone. This pass will be available at a reduced price of approximately 1500 rupees. Currently, local passes are issued monthly, whereas the annual FASTag pass is valid for travel across the entire NH network.

Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that FASTag transfer can be done through the Rajmarg Yatra application. Currently, over 98% of toll collection in the NH network is carried out via FASTag.
