Russia has put forward a proposal to India to equip Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jets with the advanced Izdeliye 177S engine to enhance their modern capabilities. This new engine is intended to significantly boost the aircraft's potential without requiring major structural modifications, building upon the existing cooperation between Moscow and the Indian aerospace industry.
The proposed engine is capable of generating thrust up to 14.5 tons and was designed while maintaining the weight and dimensions of the older AL-31F/FP engine, allowing for easy integration into operational Sukhoi aircraft. Furthermore, it is reported that this engine consumes 7% less fuel in various operating modes.
According to statements, the new engine has a service life of 6000 hours, ensuring long-term operation. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is already manufacturing and servicing AL-31FP engines under license, and the introduction of the 177S engine could mark the next major step in the development of India's domestic aerospace industry, increasing the country's technical competence.
This important offer comes amid ongoing negotiations between India and Russia regarding defense ties, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. High-level discussions are also underway concerning the fifth-generation Su-57E fighter jet. Such new cooperation in the field of Sukhoi engines will further expand aviation links and defense partnership between the two nations.
