The Hilaj Theatre in Tehran will host a performance of the staged play 'Inter Alia' this Sunday, directed by Justin Martin.
'Inter Alia' is a legal drama written by Australian playwright Susie Miller. The premiere of the play took place at the National Theatre in London in 2025, where Rosamund Pike played the lead role of Jessica Parks, a Royal Court judge.
The plot centers on Jessica Parks, an outstanding and innovative judge of the London Royal Court. Her career spans many aspects. She is characterized by compassionate and insightful legal thinking, often challenging the system from within, especially in cases of sexual violence. Nevertheless, her life involves a constant balance between a high-ranking career and the roles of wife and mother. She takes on much of the domestic and emotional burden, from planning dinner parties to having important conversations with her teenage son Harry, while her husband Michael, a barrister with less professional success, often remains a passive figure in her home life.
The central conflict of the play arises when an event from her personal life clashes with her professional principles. Her son Harry is accused of raping a classmate after a party. Jessica, a proud feminist who has presided over countless sexual assault cases, suddenly faces the ultimate test of her professional and moral convictions. The play explores the ethical and emotional crisis she encounters as she must reconcile her unwavering commitment to justice with the instinct to protect her son.

Susan 'Susie' Miller, 62, is an Australian playwright, librettist, screenwriter, and lawyer. She has written over 40 plays. Her most famous work is 'Prima Facie,' which was staged at the West End Theatre in London in 2022 with Jodie Comer and was directed by the same Australian, Justin Martin. This production won two Olivier Awards three years after its successful run in Sydney in 2019. Furthermore, it was broadcast live in cinemas across the UK via NT Live, and subsequently worldwide.
