Dreaming of climbing Everest, Tenzing Norgay herded yaks in the Himalayas. At the age of nineteen, he traveled to Darjeeling, where he became acquainted with mountaineering.
After six unsuccessful attempts to reach the summit, in 1953 he finally reached the peak with Edmund Hillary. However, his activities were not limited to this achievement.
For the next twenty-two years, Tenzing Norgay was involved in training generations of mountaineers at the Himalayan Institute of Mountaineering. Thus, Tenzing Norgay not only conquered Everest but also contributed to preparing others to follow in his footsteps.
