BMW India plans another price hike due to rupee depreciation and rising raw material costs

Hardeep Singh Brar, CEO and President of BMW Group India, stated on Friday that the company will soon increase prices across its entire portfolio. This will be the fourth increase in the current calendar year, as high raw material costs and the weakening rupee continue to put pressure on the margin of the German luxury car manufacturer.

Previously, the automaker had already increased the prices of BMW and MINI vehicle portfolios by a total of up to 5 percent following three price revisions during 2026 in India. Speaking to reporters, the President and CEO of BMW Group India noted that currency fluctuations have significantly impacted the company.

He added: 'We have already raised prices by 4-5 percent, and another increase is coming. Therefore, our prices will continue to rise due to currency pressure, raw materials, and so on.' He specified that three price increases have already taken place this year, and the next one could occur next month. The currency exchange rate deteriorated by approximately 18 percent since January of last year.

These statements were made following the presentation of the new BMW 7 Series lineup in the country. This flagship sedan model will now be available with both gasoline and fully electric powertrains. Additionally, the fully electric BMW i7 M70 model will be available in India.

The new 7 Series was presented by Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who has been appointed as the brand voice for BMW India. Brar also announced that in addition to the 7 Series, the new BMW i7 will now be manufactured locally at the BMW Group plant in Chennai. Thus, India will become the second country, alongside Germany, where the i7 is produced locally. The BMW i7 M70 model will be available as a completely assembled vehicle.

Vehicles can be booked at BMW India dealerships, with deliveries starting in October 2026. Models are available in the price range from 1.95 crore rupees for the new BMW 740 M Sport and BMW i7 eDrive 50 xDrive M Sport, while the new BMW i7 M70 xDrive is priced at 2.65 crore rupees (showroom price).

Maruti Suzuki to raise prices on some models by up to 20,000 rupees in September

Maruti Suzuki India has announced a price hike of up to 20,000 Indian rupees for a range of models starting in September. This decision was officially communicated in documentation filed with the BSE on Monday and is attributed to the continuous rise in raw material costs and increased inflationary pressure.

This increase will be the third since May. However, unlike the two previous hikes that covered the entire Maruti Suzuki model lineup, this new price revision will affect only selected models.

In its statement, the company indicated that the decision was linked to the 'continuous sustained increase in raw material costs.' The price increase of up to 20,000 rupees will take effect in September 2026.

Maruti Suzuki reported that it had taken steps to absorb the effects of rising costs through internal measures. The company noted that over the past few months, it had made constant efforts to mitigate the impact of costs through cost reduction measures.

Nevertheless, the company emphasized that the ongoing rise in costs left it with limited capacity to cover additional expenses. Maruti Suzuki stated that due to high levels of inflationary costs and a persistent unfavorable pricing environment, it must pass on some of the increased costs to the market.

The automaker also specified that it will continue to work to keep the impact of the price increase on consumers as minimal as possible.

Tata Motors also raised prices

Earlier, Tata Motors increased the price of its passenger vehicles by up to 25,000 rupees, effective September 1st. This increase covered the entire range of passenger vehicles, including internal combustion engine models and electric vehicles.
