Samsung has formalized the end of support for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic watches, both launched in 2021. This decision was communicated after the manufacturer removed both devices from its latest global security bulletin, released this September.
This discontinuation marks the end of a five-year cycle of periodic updates for these versions, fulfilling the support period stipulated by the company. The Watch 4 line was pioneering among the South Korean manufacturer's products to incorporate the Wear OS operating system.
It is important to note that the interruption of support does not mean the watches will stop functioning; however, they will no longer receive software fixes. The smartwatches, launched in August 2021, received their last firmware update in August of this year, receiving the four major system enhancements promised by Samsung, remaining on Wear OS 6 with the One UI 8 Watch interface.
In contrast, devices with similar hardware from more recent generations continue to receive updates. The Galaxy Watch FE, launched in 2024 as a reinterpretation of the 40mm Watch 4, remains on the security update list.
This maintenance of support draws attention, given that the Galaxy Watch FE shares the same Exynos W920 processor, along with 1.5 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage as its predecessor.
The Galaxy Watch 5 line, which uses the same chip, also maintains its eligibility for protection packages.
Samsung's newer smartwatches feature notable innovations. The main highlight is the Galaxy Watch 9, which received a renewed design, presenting a square shape with rounded corners and equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear Elite chip. In the Brazilian market, prices vary depending on the case size and connectivity.
The 40mm version is available for R$ 2,999 (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi) or R$ 3,299 (LTE/4G). The 44mm option starts at R$ 3,199 (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi) and can reach R$ 3,499 in the LTE variant. The flagship model, Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, was introduced in the country for R$ 4,999, in its unique 47mm configuration (LTE).
For budget-conscious consumers, there are older generation options that are still updated and sold in the national territory, such as the Galaxy Watch 8. Although it has the same launch price as the Watch 9, its longer availability in online retail allows it to be found for a lower price.
Additionally, more affordable models, including the Galaxy Watch 5 line itself, the Watch 6, and the Galaxy Watch FE, remain available in the national market as entry-level options. All these devices maintain their security patches, although Samsung guarantees software support for up to five years for its smartwatches.
