The chief secretary emphasized the strengthening of economic cooperation in the CIS countries in recent years. Sergey Lebedev told journalists that the share of settlements in national currencies between the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) has noticeably increased.
During the meeting of the CIS Economic Council held in Ashgabat, Lebedev noted that the growth in settlements in national currencies occurred under the influence of external circumstances, which accelerated the resolution of this issue. He specified that, in particular, almost all settlements between Russia and Belarus are conducted in national currencies, although this indicator is lower in other countries, but all of them strive to increase the volume of such settlements and eliminate settlements in dollars and euros.
According to Lebedev, economic interaction within the CIS has significantly strengthened in recent years. Many organizations implementing joint economic cooperation have been created. Currently, there are 56 industry councils in the CIS, the main part of which is included in the economic councils.
The meeting of the CIS Economic Council took place in Ashgabat this Friday. The next meeting is scheduled for November 27 of this year in Moscow. The event was held under the chairmanship of Turkmenistan as part of its chairmanship in the CIS bodies in 2026.
