The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has dismissed viral social media videos warning of heavy flooding and unusual rainfall in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), attributing these phenomena to the El Niño event. The Center urged the public to rely solely on official sources of information.
In its statement, NCM noted that recent social media reports contained misleading claims regarding the influence of the climate pattern on the country. The authority strongly recommended that citizens and residents verify information before sharing it.
The El Niño phenomenon is a natural climatic event whose direct impact is concentrated in the Pacific Ocean, while its influence on the UAE remains indirect. Globally, some territories face drought, while other regions record above-average precipitation.
The UAE is among the regions expected to receive above-average rainfall. NCM emphasized that although El Niño this year is 'very strong,' it is viewed as an indicator of favorable rains, which can sometimes be accompanied by heavy downpours if suitable weather conditions exist in the country.
The authority assured the public of the stability of weather conditions, which are under close observation. The statement read: 'The Center confirms that it monitors regional and global weather patterns around the clock. Any significant weather event will be announced in advance through its official channels, with necessary reports and warnings issued ahead of time.'
NCM called upon the public and the media to accurately verify information, refrain from spreading rumors, and rely exclusively on official sources.
