American researchers have completed a population cohort study and concluded that exposure to light at night is associated with a number of negative changes in heart function.
It was found that such exposure leads to hypertrophy, as well as subclinical deterioration of left ventricular myocardial function. Additionally, signs of remodeling are observed in other chambers of this organ.
The study results indicate an increased risk of developing cardiovascular pathologies and mortality from them. This scientific work was published in the European Heart Journal.
