Uzbekistan Competition Committee reviews compensation for flight delays

The Uzbekistan Competition Committee is examining passenger rights and compensation payments related to flight delays caused by air carriers.

In the first half of 2026, the Committee received over 300 consumer complaints regarding air transport services. This figure was 4.1 times higher than in the same period last year.

The complaints contained information about cases of multi-hour flight delays, untimely provision of reliable information to passengers, low quality of provided services, as well as payment for services that were not actually rendered.

The analysis conducted by the Committee revealed that in some situations, passengers whose flights were delayed due to the carrier's fault were offered neither compensation nor alternative solutions. The agency noted that such circumstances can negatively affect people's time, expenses, and plans.

Currently, the Committee is studying the practice of compensating passengers for damages from domestic flight delays caused by airlines, based on open sources, and is also considering issues of consumer rights protection.

Airlines have been recommended to ensure the completeness of information on their digital platforms and compliance of this information with legal norms. Furthermore, the Committee invites citizens to submit their suggestions and comments regarding passenger services and the protection of their rights.

Competition Committee is checking airlines for compliance with passenger compensation payment norms for flight delays

The Competition Committee has begun an inspection of airlines regarding the payment of compensation to passengers whose domestic flights in Uzbekistan were delayed due to the carrier's fault. The agency is analyzing cases of payments and compliance with consumer rights.

This inspection is being conducted against the backdrop of a significant increase in the number of complaints. In the first six months of 2026, the committee received over 300 appeals concerning air transport services. This figure is 4.1 times higher than the volume of appeals during the same period last year.

Passengers complained about various violations, including multi-hour flight delays, lack of timely information, low quality of service, as well as payment for services that were not actually provided.

The analysis of the received appeals revealed situations where, in the event of a flight delay caused by the carrier's fault, passengers were neither provided with compensation nor any other solution to the problem. For citizens, this led to loss of time, incurring additional expenses, and the need to change their plans.

Currently, the committee is studying open sources and the digital platforms of airlines to determine whether they comply with the requirements of consumer protection legislation, especially regarding compensation for domestic flight delays.

A recommendation was given to the airlines to ensure comprehensive information about their services on their digital platforms and bring it into full compliance with current legislation. Citizens who have encountered violations of their rights during a flight delay were advised to send relevant appeals and suggestions directly to the Competition Committee.
