Weather changes sharply in Delhi: heavy rains in several areas, strong wind warning in NCR, including Noida and Gurgaon

Saturday in Delhi began with heat and cloudiness. The minimum temperature recorded on this day was 26.8 degrees Celsius, which is 1.2 degrees above normal. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), predominantly cloudy skies with a probability of moderate rainfall are expected in Delhi. The daytime maximum temperature is forecasted to reach about 31 degrees Celsius.

On Friday, light and moderate rains occurred in various areas of Delhi. By 8:30 AM on Saturday, the highest amount of precipitation was registered in Ridge—10.6 millimeters over the last 24 hours. Aya Nagar received 10.3 mm, Palme received 4.7 mm, Lodhi Road received 2.4 mm, and Safdarjung received 1.8 mm.

Temperature fluctuations were observed during the rains in various meteorological centers across Delhi. In Palme, the minimum temperature was 24.1 degrees, which is 2 degrees below normal. In Ridge, 22.5 degrees was recorded, also 2 degrees below normal. Meanwhile, the temperature in Lodhi Road and Aya Nagar was above normal.

The monsoon season in the capital, according to the meteorological service forecasts, will not end soon. It is expected that rains will continue in Delhi until September 16. Therefore, residents of the capital should be prepared for further weather changes and periods of precipitation. Currently, the air quality in the capital is considered favorable.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), on Saturday at 9 o'clock, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was 63, corresponding to the 'Satisfactory' category. On the CPCB scale, an AQI from 51 to 100 is considered acceptable.

Amid preparations for the BRICS summit in Delhi, a change in weather conditions is expected. India is hosting the BRICS summit on September 12 and 13 in New Delhi, and rain is forecast in various parts of the capital on these days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Friday that light rain is expected, with light or moderate rain on Saturday. According to the meteorological service data, the sky will be cloudy on Friday with a probability of light rain. Cloudy skies are also expected on Saturday, but precipitation may be light or moderate. Furthermore, light rain is predicted for Delhi on Sunday.

According to Mahesh Palawat from SkyMet, western winds may change to easterly winds on Friday. Currently, low pressure over South Odisha is expected to move towards Central India, which could increase rainfall activity in the region. Mahesh Palawat noted that light rain might begin in Delhi on the evening of September 11, followed by light or moderate rain on September 12 and 13, and moderate rain in some areas. He suggested that this could be one of the last monsoon season rains in Delhi, as the southwest monsoon may start receding after September 21.

India will hold the BRICS summit on September 12 and 13 in New Delhi, and the meteorological service forecasts rain in the capital during this period. Light rain is expected on Friday, and light or moderate rain on Saturday. Light rain is also possible on Sunday, meaning the weather in Delhi during the summit days will not be completely clear. Despite the weather changes, temperatures remain above normal.

On Thursday, the maximum temperature at the Safdarjung main meteorological center was 36.6 degrees Celsius, which is 3.1 degrees above normal. The minimum temperature in Safdarjung was 27.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.6 degrees above normal. In different areas of Delhi, the maximum temperature also exceeded the norm: it was 34.9 degrees Celsius in Palme (1.4 degrees above normal), 36.3 degrees Celsius in Lodhi Road (3.3 degrees above normal), 35.5 degrees Celsius in Ridge (1.9 degrees above normal), and 36 degrees Celsius in Aya Nagar (1.6 degrees above normal).

Regarding the minimum temperature, it was 24.6 degrees Celsius in Palme (0.6 degrees below normal), 26.1 degrees Celsius in Lodhi Road (1.1 degrees above normal), 23.2 degrees Celsius in Ridge (1.3 degrees below normal), and 25.3 degrees Celsius in Aya Nagar (0.6 degrees above normal). On Thursday, no rain was recorded in the main meteorological centers of Delhi. Until 8:30 AM over the last 24 hours, there was no rain in Safdarjung, Palme, Lodhi Road, Ridge, and Aya Nagar. Similarly, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, no precipitation was registered in these centers. Thus, the capital was dry on Thursday, but the situation is expected to change in the coming days.

Against the backdrop of rain forecasts, the air quality in Delhi on Thursday was in the medium category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was 134. On the AQI scale, air from 0 to 50 is considered good, 51 to 100 is satisfactory, 101 to 200 is moderate, 201 to 300 is poor, 301 to 400 is very poor, and 401 to 500 is hazardous.

In conclusion, the probability of rain remains throughout both days of the BRICS summit in Delhi. IMD forecasts light rain on Friday, light or moderate on Saturday, and light rain on Sunday. Meanwhile, the temperature in the capital remains above normal, and the recession of the monsoon is expected after September 21.

Although the second week of September is usually associated with the end of the monsoon season, weather conditions in various parts of the country show a continuation of rains. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning about the probability of rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in Delhi-NCR and several other states.

According to IMD forecasts, the weather may change in about 15 states on September 10. In some areas, winds of 50 to 65 kilometers per hour are expected, accompanied by rain and thunderstorms. Although the probability of rain in Delhi-NCR today is low, the situation may change in the coming days.

In the capital and surrounding areas, light clouds are expected on Thursday. The maximum temperature is forecast to be around 35 degrees, and the minimum 27 degrees Celsius, which may cause a feeling of heat due to high humidity. However, relief is not far off: according to the meteorological department, weather changes may begin on September 11. The most intense rains are expected on September 12 and 13, after which the weather may become clearer on September 14, and rain is possible again on September 15.

There is a risk of heavy rains with thunderstorms and strong winds in several districts of Uttar Pradesh. A warning for thundershowers and strong winds has been issued for Gorakhpur, Bahraich, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Varanasi, Fursatganj, Lakhimur, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar, and Jaunpur. Wind speeds in these places may reach 65 kilometers per hour. Lucknow is also expected to have cloudy skies, with a maximum temperature of 32 degrees and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has also issued an orange alert for heavy rains in several districts of Bihar. Heavy rainfall may occur in Gopalganj, Siwan, Shivahar, East Champaran, Katihar, Patna, Bhojpur, Baksar, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Lakhisarai, Khagdia, Munger, Bhagalpur, and Muzaffarpur. The rains are expected to be accompanied by strong winds of about 50 kilometers per hour and possible lightning strikes. A maximum temperature of 32 degrees and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius is forecasted for Patna.

Madhya Pradesh may be one of the states with the highest amount of precipitation. A warning for very heavy rains is issued for many places, including Bhopal, Indore, Dewas, Ujjain, Guna, Khandwa, Panna, Sheopur, Narmadapuram, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Katni, Jabalpur, Ashoknagar, and Neemuch. During the rains, wind speed may reach 60 kilometers per hour. A maximum temperature of 31 degrees and a minimum of 23 degrees Celsius is expected in Bhopal.

In most districts of Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota, and Udaipur in Rajasthan, the monsoon may weaken in the coming days. A decrease in monsoon activity is also predicted in the districts of Jodhpur and Bikaner in western Rajasthan over the next five days. Nevertheless, light or heavy rains are possible in Alwar, Bharatpur, Digha, Dausa, and Karauli. Today, a maximum temperature of 34 degrees and a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius is expected in Jaipur.

Rainfall is expected to continue in some parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. A warning for heavy rains has been issued for Uttarakhand from September 10 to 13, as well as a risk of thunderstorms and lightning in some areas from September 10 to 14. Heavy rains may fall in Himachal Pradesh on September 14 and 15. Constant precipitation poses a threat of landslides and traffic disruptions in mountainous regions.

According to IMD forecasts, very heavy rains are possible in Chhattisgarh on September 12. Heavy rains are expected in Western Madhya Pradesh from September 12 to 14, in Eastern Madhya Pradesh on September 11, and in Vidarbha from September 12 to 13. In West India, in Konkan and Goa, Central Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Surat-Kachha, increased rainfall is also expected in the coming days. Extensive rain is forecasted for Konkan and Goa from September 9 to 15. The weather will remain active in eastern and northeastern India: thunderstorms and strong winds are possible in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Although discussions about the return of the monsoon usually begin in mid-September, this time a number of atmospheric systems is prolonging the rainy period. This is affecting various regions of the country. On the one hand, the rains help relieve the heat and stuffiness, but on the other hand, constant precipitation can lead to urban flooding, transportation problems, and drainage issues. Furthermore, there is a risk of landslides in mountainous areas and floods in lowlands.
