How to make fresh and crunchy sweet and sour snack at home instead of buying one

When you crave something crunchy and savory with your evening tea, it helps relieve daytime fatigue. Often, people buy packaged sweet and sour snacks from the store, which may contain old or fake oil, as well as various preservatives.

If you want to treat your family to clean and healthy snacks, there is no need to buy expensive snacks from the store. With poha, makhana, peanuts, and spices, you can prepare a fresh, crunchy sweet and sour snack in the style of Haldiram in just a few minutes at home.

Ingredients for homemade sweet and sour snack:

For preparation, you will need: thin or thick poha (chura) — 2 cups; makhana — 1 cup; peanut seeds — 1/2 cup; roasted peas (dalia/roasted peas) — 1/2 cup; cashew and almonds — 10-12 (cut into two pieces); raisins — 2 tablespoons; curry leaves — 15-20; green chili — 2 (thinly sliced); powdered sugar — 1.5 tablespoons; amchur powder or citric acid (tartar) — 1 teaspoon; black and white salt — to taste; turmeric powder — 1/2 teaspoon; chaat masala — 1 teaspoon; oil — for frying and roasting.

Method of preparation

In a pan, fry the poha and makhana in a little or no oil over low heat until crispy for 4-5 minutes. After frying, transfer them to a large bowl.

Next, heat 2-3 tablespoons of oil in the pan. Fry the peanuts, roasted peas, cashews, and almonds until lightly golden brown. Finally, add the raisins and remove after 5 seconds.

In the same remaining oil, fry the curry leaves and green chili. Then, reducing the heat to minimum, add turmeric powder, chaat masala, amchur powder, black and white salt. Immediately mix in the fried poha, makhana, and fried peanuts with nuts, stirring gently so that the spices evenly coat the entire mixture.

Turn off the gas and let the snack cool down slightly. When it becomes slightly warm, add the powdered sugar (as it will melt when heated). Your crunchy sweet and sour snack is ready. Store it in an airtight container after it has completely cooled, and it will remain crunchy for a month.

Preparing the Base

First, place a frying pan on the stove and pour oil into it. When the oil heats up, fry the onion until golden brown. Then add pieces of nariyus and fry them until they turn brown.

In the same pan, fry peanuts and sesame seeds alternately, then add cloves of garlic and ginger, frying them, after which set them aside. After all ingredients have cooled, grind them in a blender, adding water as necessary.

Frying the Chili and Preparing the Gravy

To fry the green chili, heat oil in a pot and make a cut down the middle of the chili, then fry it in hot oil until crispy. After frying, remove the chili onto a paper towel to remove excess oil.

To prepare the sauce, heat oil in another pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin, kalaonji, and curry leaves, frying them until fragrant. Then mix in the prepared paste and fry for one minute.

After frying, pour in two cups of water and bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat and simmer until it boils again. When the sauce boils, add the tamarind paste and salt. Add the fried chili and cook for another two minutes, then turn off the gas. Garnish the dish with fresh coriander before serving.

Although Mirchi Ka Salan is usually served with biryani in Hyderabad, it can also be mixed and eaten with roti, paratha, or dal-chawal. It is an ideal side dish because it cooks quickly and gives a simple dish a bright and spicy flavor.

Masala Peanut Recipe: How to Quickly and Easily Make a Crunchy Snack at Home

Crunchy and spicy masala peanuts sold in stores are liked by everyone, from children to adults. The good news is that this snack can be easily made at home with minimal effort. This snack, which is prepared from legume flour, rice flour, and simple spices, turns out very crunchy on the outside and incredibly tasty. Furthermore, it can be made once and stored for a long time.

If you crave something spicy, try making masala peanuts at home. Below is a recipe for making crunchy masala peanuts similar to the store-bought kind, along with a list of necessary ingredients.

The following components will be needed for preparation: 2 cups of raw peanuts, 4 tablespoons of legume flour (besan), 2 tablespoons of rice flour, 1 teaspoon of red chili powder, half a teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon of chaat masala, half a teaspoon of garam masala, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of ginger and garlic paste, 1 tablespoon of oil, 2-3 tablespoons of water, as well as frying oil.

To ensure the spices evenly coat the peanuts, the water should be added gradually. When frying, maintain medium heat, as strong heat can cause the spices to burn quickly while the peanuts inside do not cook properly. After frying, be sure to let the peanuts cool completely; only then will they retain their crunchy texture for a long time. If you plan to store the finished product, always use airtight containers.
