Dating and matchmaking coach Oendrila Kapoor published a viral video on Instagram Reels. In it, he discussed a case where a woman refused to marry a software engineer solely because she feared that artificial intelligence might take away his job.
As a matchmaking coach, Oendrila noted that among the many unusual requests he has heard, this case made him think. Previously, software engineers were considered the most preferred profile in Indian matchmaking due to good salaries, opportunities to work abroad, and chances of obtaining an American visa.
However, news of layoffs in the technology sector and the influence of AI have changed this picture. Now, some people are starting to view the entire profession as potentially risky in terms of employment stability.
Oendrila raised the question of which professions are completely protected from changes. He emphasized that AI technologies affect many fields, including finance, design, consulting, law, and healthcare. He also observed that if job stability becomes the main criterion when choosing a marriage partner, then in the future, perhaps no profession will be considered absolutely safe. In a humorous manner, he suggested that one should marry a landlord instead.
According to the matchmaking coach, making a decision about marriage based only on job title can create a false sense of security. A job can change, an industry can transform, and companies can close. Therefore, it is much more important to assess whether the person is hardworking, capable of adapting to changing conditions, financially responsible, and possesses the ability to cope with difficult times.
Oendrila added that a person does not choose a profession for the next 40 years, but rather a companion who will overcome these four decades together. After publishing Oendrila's post on social media, a discussion began regarding career and stability in marriage. Some users believe it is wrong to reject a relationship based solely on profession in the age of AI, while others argue that financial stability in marriage cannot be ignored. One commenter advised the woman to marry a plumber, electrician, stonemason, or taxi driver, as AI will not affect these professions, and they have good prospects for starting their own businesses.
