Shoulder pain is a common issue affecting many people, manifesting both episodically and daily. However, persistent pain requires attention as it may be related to bone diseases.
According to doctors, the rise in shoulder pain problems is linked to modern lifestyles. Spending long periods working on a laptop or mobile phone, incorrect sleeping positions, and cervical spine issues can cause shoulder pain. Nevertheless, if the pain becomes constant or does not go away for a long time, it should not be ignored.
Dr. Mukesh Nagar from the oncology department at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi notes that having shoulder pain itself does not necessarily mean bone cancer. Shoulder pain is most often associated with muscle tension, rotator cuff problems, or spinal disorders. Pain from patients with cervical issues can also radiate to the shoulders, but if the pain is constant, an examination is necessary.
The nature of pain in bone cancer can differ from typical pain. Such pain can be continuous and worsen over time. An important sign is the persistence of pain even during rest at night, which can cause significant distress. Additionally, swelling, lumps, or unusual pain upon pressing on the affected area may be observed.
Other signs that may indicate potential cancer development include severe weakness, constant fatigue, and rapid, unexplained weight loss. If these symptoms appear, it is strongly recommended to consult a doctor and not be complacent.
