Weather in Delhi Worsens During BRICS Summit: Meteorologists Warn of Storms in 18 States

The weather in the Delhi-NCR region suddenly changed on Friday. In several areas, people found relief from the scorching heat thanks to heavy downpours accompanied by loud thunder. The Meteorological Department has raised the warning to red level as heavy rain is forecast for the capital and surrounding areas. Consequently, residents of Delhi and NCR have been advised to exercise extreme caution.

According to available information, the rains occurred not only in different parts of Delhi but also in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad. The Meteorological Department issued a warning about moderate and heavy precipitation in some places. There is a risk of flooding in low-lying areas and traffic slowdowns on roads during prolonged rainfall. However, since schools, colleges, and offices are closed due to the Janmashtami celebrations, lower traffic congestion is expected.

According to the latest data from the Meteorological Department, moderate rains are expected in most parts of the capital, while some areas are forecast to receive heavy precipitation (from 50 to 100 mm). Thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and strong wind gusts of 40-50 kilometers per hour are also anticipated, which may reach 60 kilometers per hour.

The Meteorological Department advises people to monitor weather updates and go outside only if absolutely necessary during the rain.

According to the Meteorological Department, a well-defined low-pressure area has formed over the central and southern parts of Uttar Pradesh. Furthermore, the monsoon axis is active, passing through Shriganganagar towards the low-pressure area. This is affecting many parts of North India.

Heavy and very heavy rain is also forecasted in the eastern and southeastern parts of Rajasthan. In the last 24 hours, heavy rains were recorded in several districts of Eastern Rajasthan. Khandara, Sawai Madhopur registered the highest amount of precipitation—130 millimeters. In other districts of Rajasthan, such as Alwar, Bharatpur, Digh, Dausa, Dholpur, Jaipur, Sikar, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Karauli, Tonk, Baran, Kota, and Jhalawar, light or moderate rains were also observed.

The strong influence of the monsoon season persists in several regions of the country. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy and very heavy rainfall, stormy winds, and thunderstorms on Tuesday (September 1st) for numerous states. Adverse weather conditions are likely in approximately 20 states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Uttarakhand. Air masses moving at speeds of 50 kilometers per hour or higher are expected in some areas.

According to the meteorological department's data, there is a possibility of cyclonic circulation forming in the Bay of Bengal in the northwest and near the coast of West Bengal and North Odisha. Furthermore, cyclonic circulation is active in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjacent areas. Due to the moist air coming from the Bay of Bengal, monsoon processes may intensify in East and Central India.

Heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecasted in parts of Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh. From the evening of September 1st to September 3rd, a sequence of rains and storms is expected in the Delhi-NCR region, with wind speeds estimated at around 40 kilometers per hour.

As per IMD information, heavy or very heavy rainfall is possible in isolated places in Chhattisgarh, Eastern Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Uttarakhand on Tuesday. There are also concerns about extremely heavy rains in different spots in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. During these downpours, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds may be observed in several areas. Heavy rain is predicted in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

A warning for heavy rain and storm has been issued in several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad, Meerut, Muradabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Barabanki, Raebareli, Fatehpur, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Sonbhandr, Banda, Pratapgarh, Mirzapur, Bareli, Jaitib Phulle Nagar, Kanpur, Hardoi, Pilibhit, Jaunpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Shahjahanpur, Basti, Azamgarh, Ayodhya, Ghazipur, Ballia, Sant Kabir Nagar, Dewaria, Gonda, and Hamirpur.

A warning for heavy rain and storm is in effect in cities of Bihar, including Gaya, Jahanabad, Patna, Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj, West Champaran, East Champaran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, Purnea, Arria, Kishanganj, Bhagalpur, Lakhisarai, Munger, and Begusarai. Strong winds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are expected here.

Bokaro, Sa raikela, Palmu, Gumla, Danbad, Simdega, Ramgarh, Jamshedpur, Chhatra, Deoghar, Hajharibagh, and Dunga are warned of heavy rain and storm in Jharkhand. Wind speeds may reach 70 kilometers per hour in some places. In Ranchi, the maximum temperature may reach 26 degrees Celsius, and the minimum 23 degrees Celsius.

In Uttarakhand, a warning for heavy rain and storm has been issued in the areas of Champawat, Pithoragarh, Rudprayag, Nainital, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Chamoli, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, and Uttarkashi, with winds expected between 40 and 50 kilometers per hour. In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rain and strong winds are predicted for Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Solan, Dharamshala, Kangra, Mandi, and Shimla on September 1st and 2nd. Wind speeds may reach 55-60 kilometers per hour.

A warning for heavy rain and storm has also been issued in Jammu and Kashmir in Mirpur, Riasi, Raur, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Poonch, Kupwara, Kishtwar, Anantnag, Baramulla, and Jammu. Winds of 55-60 kilometers per hour are expected here. Due to the rains, the threat of landslides is increasing in the hilly regions.

In West Bengal, a warning for heavy rain and strong winds is in effect in Durgapur, Howrah, Kolkata, Alipurduar, Darjeeling, East Bardhaman, West Medinipur, Bankura, and Kalimpong, with wind speeds potentially reaching 60-65 kilometers per hour. Odisha is also expecting heavy or very heavy rains with thunderstorms and strong winds in several locations. Very heavy rains are possible in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Heavy rain is also forecast in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

In Rajasthan, moderate or heavy rain is expected from September 1st to 3rd in Kota, Jaipur, Churra, Admer, Udaipur, Bharatpur, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Karauli, Shriganganagar, Chittorgarh, Hanumangarh, Pali, Rajsamand, Balotra, and Bikaner. A maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius is predicted in Jaipur.

Khandwa, Savni, Hargon, Sidhi, Umaria, Shahdol, Narmadapuram, Dhar, Gwalior, Katni, Ashoknagar, Ujjain, Agar Malwa, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Narsinghpur, Bhopal, Indore, Datia, Shipuri, and Mandla have been warned of heavy rain and storm in Madhya Pradesh. Strong winds of about 40 kilometers per hour are expected here.
