Angola presents investment plan of over $11 billion in the gas industry

The National Agency of Petroleum, Gas and Biocomponents of Angola (ANPG) presented the Angolan Gas Directive Plan on Thursday during the second and final day of the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2026 conference, an annual event that gathers global participants from the energy sector.

Industrial centers are located in Cabinda, Soyo, Porto Amboim, Benguela, and Namibe. Of the planned investments, about seven billion dollars are allocated to the medium-flow sector (the stage between extraction and processing), and six billion dollars to the low-flow sector (processing and sales).

Arthur Custodio, Executive Administrator of ANPG, stated that Angola possesses over 15 billion cubic feet of monetizable gas, in addition to volumes already allocated for Angola LNG.

Among the plans for utilizing this resource to support national industrialization are the production of fertilizers, petrochemicals, and energy generation from gas.

Manuel Barros, CEO of Sonangol Gas, also highlighted the domestic use of this resource, insisting that the gas must be used to generate profit in Angola to stimulate industrial activity.

One of the mentioned projects is the Amufert complex in Soyo, which aims to produce 1.4 million tons of granular urea and 800 thousand tons of ammonia, according to published information.

The final day of Angola Oil & Gas was also dedicated to fuel refining and supply security. Angola aims to achieve a refining capacity of 425 thousand barrels per day, given that the country spent about $1.96 billion (€1.69 billion) on imported refined products in the first half of 2026.

The Lobito Refinery, designed to process 200 thousand barrels per day, remains one of the projects related to building Angola's national capacity.

In exploration, ANPG announced its intention to drill at least ten wells per year, which will be accompanied by increased exploratory work and seismic activity to expand knowledge and utilize the country's oil and gas potential.
