Instagram allows users to add tagged photos to the main profile feed

Instagram has implemented a feature that allows users to incorporate photos and videos they have been tagged in directly into their main profile grid. Previously, this content was restricted to a dedicated tagging section, separate from the posts displayed on the main profile.

This update can be advantageous in various situations, such as when wanting to highlight an image from a trip, party, or event published by a third party, without needing to repost it. Furthermore, the feature is useful in contexts of collaboration between content creators or in campaigns promoted by brands.

There are multiple ways to transfer a tagged post to the main grid. The user can perform this action through the notification received via direct message (DM) upon being tagged, using the three-dot menu located in the upper corner of the post, or by accessing the profile's tagging tab directly.

On the tagged posts tab itself, it is possible to press and hold on the post to find and select the 'Add to grid' option. After executing this procedure, the post becomes part of the set of content visible on the profile.

Instagram clarifies that the visibility of the material remains dependent on privacy settings. Thus, adding a post to one's own grid does not guarantee that it will be seen by everyone; this still depends on the settings of the original account that published the content.

It is important to note that the publication remains the property of the originating account. By adding it to the grid, a duplicate of the post is not created, nor is its location on the original author's profile altered. If the user decides to undo the inclusion, they can remove the post from the grid at any time, but the content will remain accessible in the tagging tab, provided the original conditions are maintained.

By default, posts inserted into the grid are presented in reverse chronological order. However, the platform offers the option to manually reorder the items on the profile, allowing the user to define the position of the tagged post in the grid, regardless of its publication date.

The ability to reorganize the grid was made available by the platform in June. This new feature expands the level of control over content that was originally posted by other accounts.

Beyond personal uses, Instagram highlights creator collaborations as a benefit of this novelty. A creator can promote a post they were tagged in on their own profile without having to recreate the content. The tool is also valuable in advertising actions involving multiple creators, as a single post can be highlighted on the profiles of all participants without requiring each one to create a new post.

Instagram announces measures to combat fake influencers created with Artificial Intelligence

Instagram will implement new actions to deal with profiles that do not represent real people, but rather avatars developed with the support of artificial intelligence. The platform plans to restrict the visibility of such accounts if they do not provide proper identification.

Meta's social network stated on its blog that this change is part of ongoing efforts to increase transparency, hoping that this will help users better understand the origin of the content displayed on Instagram.

The platform will replace the current 'AI creator' label with 'AI-generated profile'. This modification will serve as a basis for implementing other guidelines. According to the company, the goal is to make explicit that a profile has an AI-created personality and not a human being.

With the introduction of this new tag, an additional policy will be established: Instagram will limit the reach of profiles that use AI-generated human figures without adequately identifying themselves. Consequently, these profiles will no longer be suggested to users who do not follow them. The owners of these accounts will have the option to contest this decision.

The new designation 'AI-generated profile' will be automatically applied to all profiles that previously had the 'AI creator' badge. However, Instagram offers the option to remove this badge if the profile features an authentic human being.

AI-created influencers have been gaining prominence on social media. Figures like Emily Pellegrini and Aitana Lopez act as real people, posting videos set in sophisticated restaurants, festivals, and sporting events. However, this is only one aspect of the problem.

The measures adopted by Instagram come months after reports exposed how AI-generated avatars are being used to advertise products on the network. Although deepfakes are not new, they have become much more realistic and their creation is more accessible than ever.

An investigation conducted by The Guardian identified such profiles promoting both applications and clothing brands, without any indication that the material was advertising.

Additionally, The New York Times discovered hundreds of AI-generated personas disguised as doctors and influencers to promote dietary supplements and medications, promising superiority over conventional treatments. The campaigns specifically target elderly women with health issues.

The same newspaper also located real influencers who demonstrate how these campaigns are designed, as well as a Chinese company specializing in producing this type of content with technological assistance.
