Motorola launches teaser suggesting new foldable phone in response to Apple

Motorola released a teaser on its social media channels suggesting the launch of a new wide-screen foldable smartphone. This video was published just hours after Apple presented the highly anticipated iPhone Duo, and it is being interpreted as a way to provoke Apple's recent strategy.

The material recalls Motorola's history with its Razr line, from the classic V3 model launched in 2004 to the more current foldable devices, such as the Razr Fold, which was shown this year. At the end of the video, the company displays a sketch of an unprecedented device, characterized by a wider body and proportions similar to a passport.

Visible features on the silhouette include a horizontal camera bar on the back and a button located in the upper left corner of the inner frame. The website Android Headlines obtained sketches of this project, which show that the camera module is centralized at the top, which would help prevent the phone from tipping over when placed on a surface. If this feature is confirmed, it would represent an ergonomic advantage over the competitor Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The leaked diagrams reveal variations in the cut of the rear bar, indicating space for two cameras along with an extra sensor or an LED flash. The model also features a central camera hole at the top of the outer screen and another positioned in the upper right corner of the flexible inner panel (in horizontal orientation).

Additionally, the drawings suggest that the device will have an extremely thin structure, an internal screen with minimal creases, a glass finish, and an 'easy-open profile' design. This implies that the frame was designed to facilitate finger placement during the phone's unfolding process.

This initiative also strengthens the brand's ambitious schedule for 2026, given that it has already launched three flip-style foldable models this year, in addition to its first book-style model.

Although Motorola has not yet provided details on specifications, prices, or a definitive release date, internal sources indicate that the announcement of this widescreen model should occur in the coming months, as reported by the website PhoneArena.

Apple announces the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, in the United States

Apple launched the iPhone Duo this afternoon, along with the new line of iPhone 18 Pro. This device represents the company's first foldable smartphone, featuring a 'passport'-style design and priced at approximately US$ 2,000, which is equivalent to about R$ 10,170 in direct conversion. Currently, there is no information regarding the availability of the iPhone Duo in Brazil.

The announcement was made at the company's headquarters located in the United States. With this introduction, Apple enters competition in an already established market with several foldable models, such as Samsung with the Z Fold 8, Motorola with the Razr Fold, Xiaomi with the 18 Fold, and Oppo with the Find N6.

The new CEO, John Ternus, stated that 'a device with a larger screen would open up many other possibilities.' According to the company itself, the Duo is manufactured from aerospace-grade titanium, a material known for its resistance. Furthermore, it features Ceramic Shield protection on both the front and back, and the company guaranteed a hinge with precise opening control.

The differentiator lies in the foldable internal display, which expands to 7.6 inches, giving the smartphone an appearance similar to a reduced tablet. This display is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max and 80% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro.

The entire iOS operating system has been specifically adjusted for the iPhone Duo. This adaptation allows application and window management to resemble the iPad experience more closely, enabling the user to run multiple applications simultaneously. When the screen is open, the application dock is positioned on the right side, not at the bottom.

It is important to note that although there were speculations about a possible iPhone Ultra, Apple's leadership opted for the name Duo. It is worth remembering that the concept is not entirely new in the technology sector, given that Microsoft launched the Surface Duo between 2019 and 2020; however, this model had two internal screens but was not foldable.
