The dreams of police cadets who successfully passed the inspector exam in the Police Department are threatened with obstacles. Despite passing the exam successfully, the path to obtaining the rank of inspector is becoming difficult due to departmental requirements.
The department requires all cadets who passed the inspector exam to return the funds spent on training, as well as the salary they were paid.
Candidates who took the cadet exam at the Police Department in 2023 for 60,244 vacant positions underwent training from June 17, 2025, to April 26, 2026. After April, they began practical work in their districts.
During this process, the Police Department recruited for 4,543 inspector positions, and among the successful candidates, 1,700 are cadets who completed training and are currently undergoing practical internships in the districts.
These candidates face an issue with appointment to the inspector position. After receiving permission from the department, they passed the exam, but now the department demands reimbursement of expenses: 207,098 rupees spent on the cadet's training and 463,150 rupees received as salary from June 17, 2025, to August 31, 2026. Thus, before official appointment to the inspector position, these candidates must pay a total sum of 734,132 rupees.
Notifications regarding all such cadets are being sent by district commanders who wish to take up the inspector position. Nevertheless, there is a rule in the Police Department stating that if one resigns within two years, they must return the funds for training and salary.
However, the candidates themselves claim that they are not leaving the department; they are merely taking an exam for a higher position and plan to occupy a new role within the department. They emphasize that the training they received will be useful for the department's work. At the same time, they consider paying the sum of 734,132 rupees impractical. Because of this, they are appealing to the Prime Minister to cancel the rule about returning these funds so they can become inspectors in the Police Department. Letters on this matter are being sent to Prime Minister Yogi Adhina.
It should be noted that all successful candidates must report for duty in the last week of September, but before that, they need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the department. According to available information, discussions are also taking place at the police headquarters, as this is the first case where such a large number of candidates have successfully passed the inspector exam and wish to take a new position in the same department.
