The Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Center, located in the city of Edmonton, was conceived through a partnership between the firms hcma architecture + design and Dub Architects, with collaboration from velodrome specialists at FaulknerBrowns.
This development uniquely combines a community recreation space with a structure dedicated to high-performance sports training. A notable feature is the elevated cycling track, which is positioned on an entire floor above ground level and is surrounded by a running track.
This architectural arrangement allows various community spaces to be integrated into the lower areas, inside, and adjacent to the elevated track. A highlight of the project is the maintenance of an unobstructed line of sight between the urban court located on the ground level and the cycling track.
This setup not only makes high-speed cycling activities visible to the public but also elevates the overall spatial perception and reinforces a sense of dynamism, which is expected to inspire the next generation of athletes.
