Apple launches fifth-generation AirPods with improvements in sound and noise cancellation

Apple announced the fifth version of its earbuds, the AirPods, on Wednesday, the 9th. The company stated that these models underwent a complete redesign to provide an even more immersive sound experience compared to previous generations.

According to Apple itself, the AirPods 5 feature richer audio and a higher level of detail. Furthermore, the noise cancellation system has been improved, capable of reducing up to 50% more noise than the previous model.

In terms of battery life, the earbuds offer up to 20 hours of playback, considering both the internal battery of the earbuds themselves and that of the charging case.

In the international market, the AirPods 5 are available at a lower price than the previous generation: the entry-level model starts at US$ 129, while the AirPods 4 cost US$ 149. This is also the first time that both versions of the earbuds include noise cancellation, a feature previously exclusive to the model with the wireless charging case.

In Brazil, the basic model will be sold for R$ 1,499, featuring greater resistance to dust, sweat, and water, as well as increased durability. The AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case will have an expanded battery, wireless charging, and integrated volume control on the stems, selling for R$ 1,699. The sale of both models in the country is scheduled to begin on September 18.

Apple launches AirPods 5 with enhanced noise cancellation and artificial intelligence features

Apple revealed the fifth generation of its conventional AirPods on Wednesday, September 9th, introducing significant advancements in Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technologies. The earbuds were presented during an Apple event and are available in two configurations, both equipped with ANC.

AirPods 5 are now available for pre-order in Brazil. The basic model is priced at R$ 1,499, while the version that includes wireless charging costs R$ 1,699. Deliveries of these devices are scheduled to begin on September 18th.

Maintaining the traditional AirPods design, without silicone tips, the new models have not undergone aesthetic changes compared to the AirPods 4, launched in 2024. However, the new generation promises a better fit for different ear shapes, thanks to a reformulated acoustic architecture and the help of Adaptive EQ, a technology that adjusts frequencies according to the device's fit.

The improvements are also reflected in the ANC, which Apple considers the best in an open earbud. The company claims that this technology has achieved 50% greater efficiency compared to the previous generation, which also contributes to an enhanced Personalized Spatial Audio mode.

During the presentation, the company emphasized the integration of the earbuds with the artificial intelligence present in iPhones, citing tools such as Live Translate and intelligent Siri. It is now possible to activate the assistant and request information without needing to use the phone.

It is important to note that these models should not be confused with rumors of AirPods with cameras, whose version, which would supposedly allow capturing images for scene analysis, is only expected to be announced and released next year, possibly alongside the base iPhone 18.

Both versions also incorporate Adaptive Audio mode, which automatically manages volume and noise cancellation modes, Transparency, and Conversation Detection, reducing sound when the user starts speaking.

Unlike the previous generation, which offered separate options with and without ANC, Apple opted this time to launch a second version within a case with wireless charging support. This version presents small improvements but maintains the same look.

For an additional cost of R$ 200, this device features a force sensor that allows controlling the sound by sliding a finger. Furthermore, this version can offer up to 5 hours of music playback with ANC on, surpassing the 4 hours of the standard model.
