Prime Minister's advisor Tarun Kapoor announced on Wednesday that the government is unlikely to increase the percentage of ethanol in gasoline above the current 20% (E20) for existing vehicles. He specified that the possibility of a higher ethanol blend level should be available exclusively for vehicles equipped with a flex-fuel system.
Kapoor noted that numerous studies and experiments have demonstrated the effectiveness and positive properties of E20. According to him, although there may be a slight decrease in fuel efficiency, this drawback is compensated by an increase in octane rating.
Furthermore, the advisor emphasized that the problems users face are usually related to other causes, not the ethanol blending process itself.
In India, ethanol production capacity has already exceeded the established blending requirements, prompting the government to look for additional ways to utilize surplus raw materials.
