Flipkart tests food delivery service Eat In and launches separate app Minutes

With support from Walmart, the company Flipkart is expanding its presence into new commercial areas. It is currently testing the 'Eat In' food delivery service among its own employees in Bengaluru while simultaneously launching a separate application for its quick commerce business, Flipkart Minutes.

According to sources, the company plans to roll out 'Eat In' to a wider base of employees around September 15, ahead of a potential launch for consumers in Bengaluru. As for the Minutes app, it is being offered to a limited group of users in anticipation of a broader release expected before the Flipkart Big Billion Days sale in October.

These steps are being taken as part of Flipkart's effort to deepen its position in fast-growing segments such as food delivery and quick commerce. In these markets, the company faces established competitors, including Zomato and Swiggy, as well as a new rival, Rapido.

Earlier this year, Rapido's food delivery service Ownly began operating across Bengaluru. This platform functions on a zero-commission model, with delivery services provided through a network of logistics partners who earn revenue for providing logistical services. The Ownly platform had nearly 20,000 restaurants and continued to grow rapidly.

Recently, Ownly was included as an industry partner in the fifth edition of the NRAI Food Delivery Summit 2026, organized by the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI). This partnership allowed Ownly's restaurant-focused approach to be presented at a prominent industry forum dedicated to the changing needs of restaurants, cloud kitchens, and the entire food technology ecosystem.

Meanwhile, Swiggy is advancing in the price-sensitive segment through Toing—a separate food delivery application that has gained popularity since its launch. Brokerage firm CLSA recently estimated the weekly active users of Toing at approximately 33 million, close to Zomato's approximate 35 million.
