Uzbekistan and Serbia have reached an agreement to prepare an intergovernmental agreement concerning migration and labor mobility. This agreement was reached following a meeting between Mukhsinhodjoy Abdurakhmonov, Director of the Migration Agency of Uzbekistan, and Milica Stamenkovski, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Policy of Serbia.
Discussion of Cooperation
The parties discussed further directions for joint work in the field of labor migration and workforce movement. One of the main outcomes of the negotiations was the agreement to prepare an Intergovernmental Agreement between Uzbekistan and Serbia for subsequent signing.
The Serbian side also expressed interest in attracting qualified specialists from Uzbekistan to participate in the construction of facilities for the EXPO 2027 exhibition, which will take place in Serbia. As part of this initiative, participants discussed preliminary training of specialists taking into account the needs of the Serbian labor market, as well as their subsequent employment in positions with decent working conditions.
Furthermore, the parties considered the possibility of Serbia opening an embassy in Uzbekistan. The creation of a diplomatic mission should simplify the process of obtaining visas to Serbia for Uzbek citizens, as relevant procedures are currently processed through Astana.
The negotiations continued with the participation of Milan Bosnic, Director of the National Employment Service of Serbia. Following the meeting, it was decided that after the ratification of the intergovernmental agreement, the two agencies would sign a separate Protocol on Cooperation. This document will focus on developing interaction between Uzbekistan and Serbia in the field of labor migration and labor mobility.
