Nintendo Direct unveils Persona 6, Metroid Ravenous, and Kirby and the World Beyond for Switch 2

After dedicating a full presentation to celebrating The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary, Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct of about 45 minutes this Wednesday (9th). This event focused on upcoming releases destined for the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles.

The broadcast maintained the usual Direct format, hosted by Yoshiaki Koizumi, Senior General Manager at Nintendo EPD (Entertainment Planning & Development Division). Trailers and specific segments were used to present news about various games. Among the most notable highlights were the confirmation of Metroid Ravenous, the announcement of Persona 6, and the reveal of Kirby and the World Beyond, which marked the end of the event.

The presentation also highlighted significant support from other publishers for the Switch 2, with titles from Capcom, Square Enix, CD Projekt Red, and other companies confirmed for the new console.

One of the first major highlights was Monster Hunter Wilds. This Capcom RPG is scheduled for release on Switch 2 on December 4th. Additionally, the Ascendance expansion was also confirmed for the platform, with more details expected in 2027.

Meanwhile, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy VII: Revelation for April 8, 2027, with pre-orders starting this Wednesday. Those who wish to revisit this universe can play Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, which will be available for Switch 2 shortly after the Direct.

Another returning Nintendo franchise was Hyrule Warriors. Age of Calamity Definitive Edition will arrive on February 25th, bringing improvements to optimize the use of the new hardware.

Metroid Ravenous was one of the biggest surprises, as its project, which was previously just a rumor, was officially confirmed for Switch 2, with a release scheduled for January 28, 2027. The game will feature a physical version and a new amiibo available on the same release date.

The announcement of Persona 6 was also relevant, as this new chapter of the Atlus series was presented, increasing the list of major RPGs planned for Switch 2.

Pikmin 4 will also receive a specific version for Switch 2 on November 12th. New features include the ability to use the console's built-in microphone to issue voice commands to Oatchi. This edition will also bring Dandori Academy, a new mode consisting of 72 gradually unlocked stages, and its pre-order opened this Wednesday.

The Direct dedicated considerable time to ports, remasters, and collections. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will launch on Switch 2 on September 29th, while Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition are set to debut on October 16th.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight arrives on September 18th, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be released on December 3rd, including the hero Shimmer and the Heroes Vault mode.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a reimagining of the original 1996 title, was also announced, scheduled for February 12th; Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition for 2027; and the horror game Onyx: The Dark Grip, exclusive to Switch 2 and designed to use features like touchscreen and gyroscope.

Among other confirmed titles, Danganronpa 2x2, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, Metal Slug Ultimate Collection, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3, and Romancing SaGa 3: Destiny United stand out.

Those who already own a Switch 2 also received updates. Mario Kart World received a free update this Wednesday, adding ten classic Super Mario Kart tracks to Versus Race mode. The Knockout Tour was also expanded with two new routes: Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally.

Star Fox will receive a free update on September 29th, introducing Battle Mode for up to four local players and three new stages. Additionally, Star Fox Adventures was announced for the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics catalog, with immediate release this Wednesday.

Nintendo also confirmed Nintendo Switch Sports Resort for October 22nd, exclusive to Switch 2. Professor Layton and the New World of Steam arrives on December 10th, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave was confirmed for September 17th.

The Direct also showcased the second phase of the Pokémon Pokopia expansion pass, which will include new accessories in 2026, and provided information on Mega Man: Dual Override, which will feature Proto Man and receive an amiibo.

Nintendo reserved one of the biggest reveals for the end: Kirby and the World Beyond was announced as a new 3D adventure exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. The trailer showed Kirby exploring an unprecedented setting and displayed a new design for the character. Its release is scheduled for Spring 2027 in the Northern Hemisphere (Autumn in Brazil).

This announcement also paves the way for another important Nintendo celebration: Kirby will turn 35 in 2027, and the company promised to disclose more details about the franchise in the future.

With unprecedented additions such as Persona 6, Metroid Ravenous, and Kirby and the World Beyond, combined with versions of Monster Hunter Wilds, The Witcher 3, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy, the Direct significantly strengthened the Switch 2 catalog for late 2026 and early 2027.
