Microsoft has made several promises regarding Windows 11, and some of these promises are beginning to materialize. One of the goals considered particularly complex is ensuring that the operating system functions efficiently using only 8 GB of RAM. Despite the challenge, the company confirmed that it is dedicating efforts to achieve this objective.
This confirmation was made by Mark Linton, Vice President of the Windows division, during a presentation held at the IFA 2026 fair. The executive stated that the company is actively working for Windows 11 machines to operate excellently even with 8 GB of RAM.
Linton mentioned that before making this statement, he had explained that Microsoft has already achieved notable improvements in areas such as system startup time and Windows Hello performance. This indicates that Windows 11 is being enhanced in various performance indicators, not just in RAM consumption.
However, the Windows Latest portal points out that startup optimizations, for example, are not yet visible in the public beta versions of the operating system. This suggests that the advances cited by Linton may be restricted to an internal version, accessible only to the company's own developers.
The promised optimization of Windows 11 for 8 GB of RAM is the point that attracts the most attention, given the high cost of memory, which makes computers with this amount of RAM increasingly uncommon.
It is important to note that Microsoft has not yet announced a specific date for when this fully optimized Windows 11 will be available to all users. The previous month, Microsoft released an update that introduced an adjustable Start Menu and mobile Taskbar functionality, but this was an optional update.
More recently, on Tuesday, September 8th, the company began officially distributing an update for Windows 11 that includes these and other features. This release corresponds to the September 2026 Patch Tuesday (KB5124008), which is mandatory and occurs automatically, corroborating the idea that some Windows 11 promises are becoming reality.
