The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a yellow alert warning of risks from strong winds and storms in the Southern and Southeastern regions of Brazil. The presence of low-pressure areas and a trough over the South Region will favor rain and storms in various parts of the country this Wednesday, the 9th, and Thursday, the 10th.
Among the states with the highest probability of experiencing storms are Paraná, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso do Sul. Conversely, the scenario in the Northeast is different; precipitation tends to be more localized on the coast, while the Matopiba region, composed of Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí, and Bahia, will face intense heat, dry weather, and low air humidity, with Teresina potentially reaching up to 39°C on both days.
The central-southern atmosphere of the country will become more unstable over the next two days. Forecasts indicate the possibility of rain showers and thunderstorms in the Midwest, the South Region, and in sectors of the Southeast and North. Paraná, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, and Mato Grosso do Sul are highlighted as areas with high potential for storms, with a chance of hail and wind gusts.
Detailed forecasts for the regions
On Wednesday, Paraná is expected to have rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. At night, unstable conditions will extend to Santa Catarina and the north-central part of Rio Grande do Sul. On Thursday, rain will persist in Paraná, Santa Catarina, and northwestern Rio Grande do Sul.
In São Paulo, Wednesday will begin with showers accompanied by thunderstorms in the west-central part of the state. From the afternoon, the rain will expand, affecting other areas of São Paulo, the Triângulo Mineiro, southern Minas Gerais, and the west-central part of Rio de Janeiro.
Continuation of rains and alerts
On Thursday, rain showers will continue to affect São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and south-central Minas Gerais. Yellow alerts have been issued for the capitals of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte.
Regarding temperatures, São Paulo will record a minimum of 14°C on Wednesday and 15°C on Thursday. In Rio de Janeiro, the maximum temperature forecast for Wednesday is 27°C, and Vitória may reach 29°C on Thursday.
In the North, the heat remains strong, with Manaus, Rio Branco, and Boa Vista potentially reaching 36°C on Wednesday. For Thursday, Rio Branco could reach 38°C, while Palmas and Manaus are expected to register 37°C.
In the Northeast, rains will be mainly concentrated along the coastal strip. On Wednesday, rain is forecast between the southern coast of Bahia and Salvador, as well as in western Maranhão. Dry and hot weather dominates the region encompassing Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí, and Bahia. Inmet has maintained the yellow alert regarding low humidity for Wednesday and Thursday afternoons in much of Piauí and Ceará, as well as other northeastern locations.
This regional contrast will be noticeable: while the south-central area will deal with rain and storm potential, the Northeast areas will maintain heat and dry air.
