AmaZulu forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya received the Betway Premiership player of the month award. He acknowledged the award but emphasized that he will not let the recognition change his playing approach.
Ngwenya demonstrated an impressive start to the season, scoring eight goals and providing one assist in six matches across all tournaments. The player himself believes that his success is the result of collective efforts.
The 25-year-old footballer expressed gratitude to his teammates and coaching staff after receiving the individual recognition. He stated: 'I just want to thank them for the award, and I also want to thank my teammates and the coaching staff because I wouldn't have done it without them.' He added that they also made significant contributions.
Ngwenya's form has made him one of the leading attacking players in the Betway Premiership, with five of his goals scored in four league matches. It is worth noting that Thando Ngwenya became the first Zimbabwean-born player to win the PSL player of the month award since 2018, following Khama Billiat for Kaizer Chiefs in September 2018.
AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane urged the forward to maintain his current form and continue increasing his tally. However, Ngwenya asserts that this expectation does not feel like pressure. Instead, he views it as a stimulus to continue delivering results for the Usuthu team.
He stated: 'Yes, I know it doesn't feel like pressure, but I will treat every game as a separate one and score every goal.' This mindset helped Ngwenya at the start of the season, and his goals also secured him a spot in the Zimbabwe preliminary squad for upcoming matches against Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Despite Zwane's demands, Ngwenya made it clear that he is ready to accept this challenge. While the award recognized his recent contribution, the AmaZulu forward believes there is still much ahead.
