Serbia opens labor market to Uzbek citizens under new agreement

Uzbekistan and Serbia signed a document on cooperation in the field of labor health and safety during the visit of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Serbia.

This agreement is designed to deepen interaction between the two states and open new opportunities for improving workplace safety, protecting the lives and health of workers, as well as exchanging experience and implementing modern methods in occupational safety.

One of the central areas of joint work will be ensuring safe and healthy working conditions. The parties also plan to focus on improving occupational safety systems and preventing industrial injuries and occupational diseases.

Special attention will be paid to studying international experience and modern approaches to ensuring workplace safety, after which the most effective solutions will be practically applied.

For the State Labor Inspectorate of Uzbekistan, international partnership in this area is of great importance for improving mechanisms for monitoring compliance with labor health and safety requirements and preventing violations. Exchanging experiences with foreign partners will help study existing methodologies and assess the potential for their implementation in Uzbekistan. Protecting the lives and health of workers is one of the priorities of Uzbekistan's state labor policy.

Uzbekistan and Serbia held discussions on the prospects for deepening interaction in the mining sector. Areas discussed included the production of specialized equipment, the implementation of advanced technologies, and the development of industrial partnership.

These issues were raised on September 7, 2026, in Belgrade during the first meeting of the Uzbekistan-Serbia Intergovernmental Commission. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Mining and Geology F. Khamidova.

During the event, representatives of the Ministry of Mining and Geology of Uzbekistan met with the Secretary of State of the Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy. Special attention was paid to cooperation opportunities with the company GOSA FOM, which specializes in producing equipment and mechanisms for the mining, metallurgical, and energy sectors.

The parties discussed the potential to increase the production of specialized equipment for the mining industry and integrate modern technologies. Priority areas for development were also identified as strengthening the material and technical base and developing industrial cooperation. These negotiations are part of continuous efforts to develop partnership relations between Uzbekistan and Serbia in the mining sphere.

Uzbekistan and Serbia reached an agreement to expand trade and economic interaction, increase investments, and develop industrial ties following the first meeting of the Uzbekistan-Serbia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in Belgrade on September 7.

The meeting was co-chaired by the Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, and the Minister of International Economic Relations of Serbia, Nenad Popović. The parties discussed areas for deepening trade and economic ties, increasing investment volumes, and developing industrial partnership.

Particular attention was paid to preparing for the start of negotiations on concluding a free trade agreement. Prospective areas for joint work included pharmaceuticals, textile industry, agriculture, critical minerals, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence.

Participants also considered ways to simplify cargo transportation between the two countries, as well as prospects for cooperation in the field of railway infrastructure. It is planned that the second meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission will take place in Uzbekistan in 2027.

During his visit, Laziz Kudratov held a series of meetings and negotiations with leaders of major Serbian companies. Opportunities for further strengthening business ties and cooperation in priority sectors were discussed.
