The Migration Agency of Uzbekistan has announced the launch of a grant program for citizens who have returned from abroad with the aim of opening or expanding their own businesses. According to the agency's press service, this initiative is being implemented with the participation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with financial support from the Ministry of Justice of Sweden.
The main goal of this program is to stimulate entrepreneurship among citizens who have experience in labor migration. The maximum funding amount available for one business project is 60 million soums. Selection of recipients will be carried out through a competitive process.
When evaluating applications, organizers will consider the viability of the business idea and the applicant's clear plan for its implementation. A key criterion will be the project's potential for creating new jobs, and the sustainability and efficiency of the proposed or existing business will also be assessed.
Eligible participants are citizens of Uzbekistan who worked abroad during the period 2025–2026 and subsequently returned to Uzbekistan. The program places special emphasis on attracting women. Separately, the Migration Agency announced another grant program for Uzbek citizens working in the UK. This opportunity is open to those who participated in the UK Seasonal Worker Program during the period 2024–2026.
Participants in the British program must complete a one-day intensive training course in Tashkent. To participate in the competition, candidates must prepare a business plan and provide proof of their entrepreneurial experience. Furthermore, applicants must confirm their willingness to cooperate with IOM for the next two years, which will allow experts to assess the program's impact on participants' living conditions.
Applications for this second program will close on September 20th. These grant support initiatives come against the backdrop of expanded migration cooperation between Uzbekistan and Sweden. In June, both countries signed an agreement on partnership in migration and mobility. Representatives of the foreign ministries of the two countries also signed a declaration on launching a pilot program in this area, which provides for support for legal migration and the development of academic exchange.
