PM-KISAN Program Scheme: How Farmers in Uttar Pradesh Receive Direct Financial Assistance

The PM-KISAN program, launched in Gorakhpur in 2019, now provides annual financial support to land-owning farmer households across the country. In the latest tranche, over 21.7 million beneficiaries from the state of Uttar Pradesh participated. This initiative was created to ensure access to aid for farmers nationwide and initially started in Uttar Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in Gorakhpur on February 24, 2019.

The 23rd tranche of the program was released on June 20, 2026. Under this tranche, more than 18,880 crore rupees were transferred to over 94.4 million farmers across the country. The largest share of funds went to farmers from the state of Uttar Pradesh. In this single tranche, over 21.7 million qualified farmers from the state received a total amount of 4,352.40 crore rupees.

A study conducted in 2022 by the Centre for Agro-Economic Research at Aligarh University, sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, detailed the impact of PM-KISAN specifically in Uttar Pradesh. This study revealed certain findings.

Recipients of the PM-KISAN allowance also have the option to apply for Farmer Credit Cards (KCC), which have been integrated with this government program. This allows farmers to obtain short-term loans at reduced interest rates.
