QNu Labs, a company specializing in quantum cybersecurity, has successfully raised 200 crore rupees in a Series A1 round. The leaders of this round were the National Quantum Mission and the deep technology venture firm Speciale Invest. Sony Innovation Fund, which invests in technological enterprises of strategic importance to Sony and with global potential; Gaja Capital, supporting the India-focused mid-market; and Artha Ventures, which supports early-stage startups in India, also participated in the round.
Thanks to this funding, the Bengaluru-based company has increased its total raised capital to 375 crore rupees. QNu plans to use the new funds to expand its research and development activities, increase sales and operations in the Indian and international markets, and expand its technological stack in quantum sensing and artificial intelligence.
A portion of the received funds will be directed towards the company's contribution to an approved project on research, development, and innovation, aimed at creating the technological foundation for India's Quantum Secure and Sensing Networks. Gupta noted that the National Quantum Mission helped lay the groundwork for the sector, and now 'quantum-safe technologies are moving from policy to commercial implementation.'
The company develops products for quantum-resistant cybersecurity designed to protect digital infrastructure and communications from threats posed by increasingly powerful quantum computers. Among its technologies is Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), which uses principles of quantum physics to ensure the security of encryption key exchange, as well as other security systems developed for the transition to quantum-resistant systems.
QNu Labs was incubated at IIT Madras in 2016 and was founded by Srinivasa Rao Aluri and Sunil Gupta. The company reported that its products are already used in government bodies, critical infrastructure, banking, financial services, and insurance. The company's staff comprises 160 engineers, physicists, and mathematicians.
The attraction of new funding comes as governments begin to view quantum security as a long-term infrastructural challenge rather than solely a research question. According to a Department of Science and Technology report published in May 2026, a quantum resilience target has been set for India's critical information infrastructure by 2029, and broader adoption of post-quantum cryptography by 2033.
Post-quantum cryptography refers to encryption methods designed to remain secure against future quantum computers. India's National Quantum Mission, approved with allocations of 6,003.65 crore rupees over eight years, covers quantum computing, communication, sensing, and metrology, as well as quantum materials and devices. By 2026, four thematic centers have been established involving 152 researchers from 43 institutions, and government-supported startup support has expanded to 17 companies.
QNu has already become part of these efforts. In April, the government announced a demonstration of a domestic quantum communication network spanning 1000 km under the mission, utilizing technologies developed by QNu Labs, which is a step toward the mission's long-term goal of 2000 km. Gupta emphasized that investment in domestic capabilities can help India 'secure its expanding digital infrastructure with sovereign technologies' while simultaneously developing products capable of competing in global markets. Speciale Invest previously invested in QNu Labs five years ago, and Vishesh Rajaram, managing partner, stated that the firm sees expected adoption as governments and enterprises prepare for the quantum era. The latest investment reflects continued support for QNu in its pursuit of international expansion.
