The Supreme Court rejected a law passed during the Assam Congress era that permitted the employment of a large number of teachers from private and charitable educational institutions in the public sector. The court also prohibited the current government from appointing or hiring any person to a school or college if they lack the necessary qualifications.
Judge Bagchi requested information on whether the High Court's decision was challenged. Kumar noted that the quality of education is deteriorating. The bench sent a notification to the state and central governments, ruling that 'no teacher should be appointed or hired in schools and colleges unless they possess the required qualifications under the Right to Education Act (RTE Act), the National Council for Teacher Education Act (NCTE Act), and the UGC Act.'
